Got a question about WordPress?

2009 June 2

In order to make this site as helpful to as many people as possible, I’m going to start answering some of your questions about WordPress on this site.

So… Hit me!

Leave a comment on this post with your most pressing question.

If I answer your question, you’ll be notified by email. Let me know if you want me to feature your website at the end of the post as well.

Also, I’m working on a “living document” of sorts for my paying clients. It’ll include a lot of the basics of WordPress and how to keep up your site. It has to be a living document mainly because of the frequent upgrades and new features that WordPress does. I’m considering a members-only part to WPChick.com, but I’m still chewing on that one.

OH! And by the way – a fantastic graphics gal local to Atlanta is working on the WPChick.com logo. Soon there’ll be a new fancy look to this site (or at least the header ;) ). Go see her at Helen’s 1-Stop Design Shop.

Hi Lexi. Great start to your site, congratulations! I wish you the best of success with it. I like the Vigilance theme, and I’m lookng forward to seeing the new logo when it’s ready.

I’m also putting up some sites with WordPress and I’m managing to sort most of it out ok so far. But I’m confused about feeds. Can you help? I understand how they work in theory. It’s the practical details I can’t quite get the hang of. So here are a few questions:

Does a WP installation come with a feed automatically, or do I have to get one or set one up or adjust any settings? What if I use a theme that doesn’t come with it’s own rss button, or if I prefer to use a different button.

What about Feedburner? What advantages does it have? I uploaded a Feedburner plugin to my plugins folder and activated it but it doesn’t seem to have changed anything. So what else do I need to do?

How do I find out what is my feed url? Is it the same as my site url?

If I have the Add This plugin and button do I need a feed button too?

How did you get and set up that neat little row of icons you have for feed, email and Twitter?

That’s all for now. Yes, I’d be delighted if you want to feature my new site at scannertribe.com site.
